Frequently Asked Questions
-
You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Many people come because they feel stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, or simply want a better understanding of themselves. Therapy can also be helpful during major life transitions, relationship challenges, or times when you'd like extra support.
If you're unsure whether therapy is the right fit, I offer a free 30-minute virtual consultation where we can talk about what you're looking for and whether I think I can help.
-
The consultation is an opportunity for us to get to know one another. We'll talk about what brings you to therapy, I'll answer any questions you have about my approach, and together we'll decide whether working together feels like a good fit.
There is no pressure or financial commitment.
-
The first session is about getting to know you and understanding what has brought you to therapy. We'll explore your current concerns, discuss your goals, and begin building a shared understanding of what you'd like to work toward.
There's no expectation that you'll tell your whole life story in one session.
-
That's completely okay. Many of my clients are attending therapy for the first time.
You don't need to know what to say or how therapy works. My role is to guide the conversation and help create a space where you can explore your thoughts at your own pace.
-
You don't need to arrive with perfect insight. In fact, many people come to therapy because they're struggling to put words to what they're experiencing. Part of our work together is slowing down, making sense of those experiences, and developing a language for them over time.
Getting Started
-
Most clients begin by meeting weekly or every other week. As therapy progresses, we may adjust the frequency depending on your goals, schedule, and what feels most helpful.
-
There isn't a single answer to this question. Some people come for a few months to work through a specific challenge, while others choose to stay longer as they continue exploring personal growth and long-standing patterns.
We'll regularly check in to make sure therapy continues to meet your needs.
There is no pressure or financial commitment.
-
My work is collaborative, curious, and tailored to the individual. Rather than relying on a single therapeutic model, I draw from approaches including Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Narrative Therapy, and other evidence-based approaches that fit your goals and experiences.
-
Rarely.
If there's something I think could be helpful between sessions, I'll suggest it, but therapy isn't built around homework. Any exercises or reflections are always collaborative and designed to support your goals rather than create another item on your to-do list.
-
Not usually.
I believe the best decisions are the ones that make sense to the person living with them. My role isn't to tell you how to live your life. It's to help you better understand yourself, explore your options, and make choices that align with your values and goals.
I think those two questions encapsulate your style exceptionally well. They also address common concerns that prospective clients often have but don't always think to ask aloud.
