CONFIDENTIALITY

One of the foundations of therapy is trust. You deserve to know how your privacy is protected, when confidentiality applies, and the rare circumstances where I may be required to share information.

A Space to Speak Freely

Therapy works best when you feel safe enough to be honest.

Whether you're talking about relationships, anxiety, trauma, grief, or experiences you've never shared with anyone before, my role is to create a space where those conversations can happen without fear of judgment.

Everything you share in therapy is treated as confidential. That means your personal information, what we discuss in session, and your clinical records are protected.

Confidentiality isn't simply a legal obligation. It's an essential part of building the trust that allows meaningful therapeutic work to happen.

Virtual Therapy

Virtual sessions are conducted using secure technology designed to protect your privacy.

I encourage clients to attend sessions from a private location where they feel comfortable speaking openly and where interruptions are unlikely. Using headphones and ensuring others cannot overhear your conversation can further protect your privacy.

Are There Any Exceptions?

There are a small number of situations where I may be legally or ethically required to disclose information without your consent. These situations are uncommon, but it's important that you know about them.

Confidentiality may be limited if:

  • There is a serious and immediate risk of harm to yourself.

  • There is a serious and immediate risk of harm to another person.

  • There are concerns that a child may be experiencing abuse or neglect and requires protection.

  • A court orders the release of records.

  • Disclosure is required by law or by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario as part of its regulatory responsibilities.

Whenever possible, I'll discuss these situations with you before any information is shared.

Your Records

As a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), I'm required to maintain secure clinical records in accordance with the standards of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario and the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA).

Your records are stored securely using Jane App, a Canadian practice management system designed for healthcare professionals. Access to your information is limited to what is necessary to provide your care and meet legal and professional obligations.
